Pine - Mountain (Pinus Mugo)

Pine - Mountain (Pinus Mugo) - Bonsai Tree Type (Outdoors) Bonsai Care

Native to central Europe. Thrives in harsh conditions. Becomes "bushy" in better conditions. Has upright needles, growing in pairs. Bark is a craggy, dark brown. Has some interesting dwarf varieties (Gnon and Mops).

STYLE : Suited to all styles - except broom. Dwarf varieties particularly suited to "clasped-to-rock" style.

WARNING : Protect from severe frost and freezing winds.

Care Info

REPOT : Every 3-5 years in mid spring or late summer.

SOIL : Free draining soil : 30:70 grit:organic. Can be grown in even coarser mix.

PRUNE : Branch prune in autumn or winter.

PINCH : Pinch back overgrown shoots and prune back long primary shoots during growing season.

WATER : Water to keep soil moist in growing season, sparingly in winter. benefits from water spray in warmer weather.

FEED : Monthly during growing season. A low nitrogen feed in late winter provides a boost to spring growth.

WARNING : Protect from severe frost and freezing winds.
