Existing Bonsai A To Z Entry for Transpiration Transpiration  - (Other) This is the process of water loss from trees as stomata (small openings on the undersides of leaves) open and close in response to the levels of moisture in the atmosphere.  Transpiration also transports nutrients from the soil into the roots carrying them to the various cells of the plant.
