COTYLEDON (LEAF) -

The seed leaf or LEAVES which are pre-forMEd in the seed and are the first to emerge on GERMINATION>GERMINATION. Many cotyledons contain sugars which support the plant until it is able to manufacture its own food. Normally the SHAPE of the seed leaves bears little or no relation to the eventual shape of the true leaf.
