DECIDUOUSTREE>DECIDUOUS TREE with small green LEAVES, prickly branches and profuse blossom from white (in common hawthorn : crataegus monogyna) through pink to deep red (in the HYBRIDs : cratagaegus lavigata - especially Paul's Scarlet), followed by orange/red berries.

STYLE : Suitable for most styles except formal upright or broom.

HAWTHORN (CRATAEGUS) -

REPOT : Annually in early spring or early autumn. Larger/older speciMEns need less frequent re-potting.

SOIL : Free draining soil : 40:60 GRIT:organic.

PRUNE : Branch prune after flowering.

PINCH : Princh out SHOOTS to two or three LEAVES in spring.

WATER : Water well in growing season, sparingly in winter. Benefits from foliar spraying with water.

FEED : Two weekly BALANCED FEED during growing season, low nitrogen in autumn.

WARNING : Spray to prevent MILDEW. Also spray with FUNGICIDE at BUD>BUD BREAK to prevent PEACH LEAF CURL.
