Hardy deciduous tree shiny, copper coloured trunk and small "inverted teardrop shaped leaves with slightly serrated edges. It is in flower in May, and the seeds ripen in July.

STYLE : Suitable for most styles except literati but particularly good for tray landscape (saikei) styles.

LOCATION : Flourishes in warm, dry positions and stands up well to cold.  Likes sun and needs a lot of light.

REPOT : Every 2 years while young, and less frequently when older, in early spring just prior to bud burst. SOIL : Ideally Akadama or 40:60 grit:organic.

PRUNE : Late winter for main or crossing branches.

PINCH : Trim new shoots constantly throughout summer, to one or two leaves.

SOIL : Recommended : free draining soil such as Akadama. In nature it grows in most types of soil from light (sandy) and medium (loamy) to heavy (clay) soils, although it generally prefers well-drained soil. pH 5.0-6.0.

WATER : Daily throughout growing season but infrequently during winter months.

FEED : Start balanced feed one month after bud burst thenevery two weeks during spring/summer.
