Ume is an Asian tree species classified as genus Prunus. Its common names include Chinese plum and Japanese apricot. It is a deciduous tree with oval, taper pointed, mid-green leaves producing blossom, fruits and large blooms of fragrant flowers on bare winter branches.

REPOT : Annually in a deepish pot in late winter , after flowering.
SOIL : Free draining soil : 40:60 grit:organic. Adddition of a small amount of loam also helpful.
PRUNE : Hard prune after flowering, allow unhindered growth during summer.
PINCH: Trim new shoots in autumn.
WATER : Water well in growing season, sparingly in winter.
FEED : Apply balanced feed in spring, heavy nitrogen feed in summer and nitrogen free feed in autumn to encourage winter flowering.
